Chile is a country in South America. Santiago is the capital and largest city.
History of hockey in ChileEdit
There are rumors that ice hockey was played in the harbor city of Valparaiso as early as the 1970s. These claims have never been substantiated, and it may well have been that the game being played was field hockey.
Recreational ice rinks exist in Santiago, but there is no ice hockey played in the capital.
A 40x15 ice rink opened in the southern Chilean city of Punta Arenas in 2010. Hockey has been played at the rink since 2012. It has played host to the Copa Invernada three-on-three ice hockey tournament since 2013.
The national ice hockey team has yet to participate in an international event, but the national inline hockey team has participated in the IIHF InLine Hockey World Championships. Their last appearance was in 2002.
